For people who love walking or hiking in beautiful surroundings, Montgó mountain in the Marina Alta is an ideal place to visit.
Situated in the middle of a nature reserve, the Montgó rises to an impressive 750m. Once you reach the top of the Montgó, you will be rewarded with the most amazing scenery.
If the weather is clear, you can see the coastlines of Ibiza, Formentera and sometimes even Majorca, and the view inland just seems to go on for ever. Don´t forget to take food and plenty of water with you on this exhilarating journey.
You are in a natural area that presents a rich flora of more than 600 catalogued species. There are also many species of birds , amphibians and Reptiles.
IN BENEFIT OF THE PARK'S CONSERVATION, Please remember that you are in a natural protected area. Try to go in small groups, make as little noise as possible, respect plants and animals, keep to the marked trail and do not leave rubbish or any traces of your excursion.
Route Montgó
O´ Departure from the Jávea shooting range car park, on the road to Dénia via La Plana
10´Follow the road. On the left hand side, a red track takes us in the direction of Dénia shooting range. 50 metres further on there is an iron bar showing the entrance to the Natural Park.
25´Approximately 400 metres down the path, there is a Generalidad Valenciana sign and route markings showing a turn to the right.
40´ 100 metres further on the path ends in an uneven track. At this point we can sight the capes of San Antonio and Prim.
60´ Continue the track up the mountain, avoiding short cuts.
105´The most difficult part is to climb the crest of Montgó because the track is extremely rocky. Follow the markings which appear more frequently.
120´ Once at the summit, 753 metres above sea level, we can contemplate a panoramic view, on clear days to Ibiza.
Return by the same path.
